We have been reading many great non-fiction books, whether it is a non-fiction book from the library or your biography. Think about two text features that have helped you understand your non-fiction text. Explain what those two text features are and how they helped you. Give specific examples and use complete sentences. Be sure to comment on two classmates' posts.

If you would have a chance to speak with the subject of your biography, what questions would you ask him or her?
Explain why you would want to know the answers to the questions and what you hope to learn about your person. This week, we begin our new unit on nonfiction reading. I would like to learn about your attitudes about nonfiction reading. What topics do you like to read about? What is hard about nonfiction reading? What is easy? Tell me and your classmates about your favorite nonfiction text that you have read in the past.
I will go first: Right now, I am reading the autobiography of Tim Howard and I find that I am learning so much about soccer. Before I read this book, I didn't know the difference between a striker and a keeper. I also didn't know much about the strategies you need to play soccer. I usually like to read about history, particularly the Revolutionary War. My favorite nonfiction text is Nubs, which I will share with you later this week. |
