In class we have been focusing on our characters in our books and in our scripts. We are learning about who our characters are based on their traits and what they want in the story. We formed theories about our characters and saw how those theories changed after new information was read. Finally, we considered how our characters' journey leads us to understand the THEME of the story.
Thinking about any book or play that you have read in 4th grade, tell me about a character. How did that character change? If your character did not change, tell me why you think he or she stayed the same. Did this change help you discover the theme of your story? Bonus: ** Why do you think the author made the character change?**

This week, we will be studying drama. We will learn about reading and performing plays. Through these lessons, we will learn even more about characters and how they reveal themselves through the story.
What kind of experience do you have with drama, such as plays, musicals, ballet, or opera? Have you attended different kinds of shows? Have you ever performed in one? Tell about your experience. If you have never experienced a play, do you think the story that you are reading independently could be performed on stage? Why or why not? If you could choose to be any character from one of your independent reading books, who would you choose? Why do you want to be that specific character? How would you change things in the story if you were that character.
Last week, you told about your characters and what they want in the story. This week, I am asking you to think deeper about your characters. Here are a few questions to consider:
Would you like to have this person as a friend? Why or why not? Does this character remind you of someone in your life? Who is it and what do they do that is familiar? Which character changes in the story? Describe how he or she is in the beginning of the story and how they have changed. Pick one or two of these questions to answer in this blog. |
